  In simplified terms, an inductor dynamometer consists essentially of a rotor, stator and toroidal field coil.  With the rotor driven by the test device, eddy currents are induced in the rotor opposing an equal electro-magnetic force generated in the restrained stator.  This opposition causes a loading effect.  Capable of precise control of this load, the inductor (eddy current) dynamometer is by far the most widely used method today for power absorption.   wpe3B.gif (29094 bytes) wpe40.jpg (169825 bytes)  
           
 

DC Dynamometers

       
 

The DC dynamometer system is an adjustable voltage system using the DC dynamometer as a conventional DC shunt motor.   When in the absorbing mode, power is returned to the AC line by inverter action.  For motoring, power is taken from the three phase line, converted to DC and applied to the dynamometer armature circuit.  Speed regulation is controlled by field weakening, where an increase in field current will reduce the dynamometer speed and a reduction in field current will increase the speed.

D2t Dynamometer Controls
       
  Dyno One now provides the D2T DCU 2000 Digital Control Unit with the following:
  • Two digital regulation loops for the control of an actuator, and inductor (eddy current) and hydraulic dynamometers

D2T Asynchronous Dynamometers
       
  The AC dynamometer solution consists of DTC (Direct Torque Control) and IGBT technology, resulting in excellent dynamic performance and overload characteristics with speed and load control.  The system consists of:

  • Variable drive including, ACU:  Auxiliary supplies, torque conditioning, command relay and low voltage protection.  ICU:  Main supply, general circuit breaker and protection switch.  FIU:  Filtering module.  ISU:  Motor/generator converter module with IGBT semi-conductors supplying the direct bus
  • Each phase of the asynchronous motor is controlled by IGBT's computing between a positive and negative voltage continuously with the DTC
  • Remote control RS485 serial link with Profibus Master DP communication protocol
  • Electrical control cabinet is provided by ABB

Dynamometer Bases/Starters
