Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) Test System
Project Type: Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) Tester
Customer: Ford Motor Company, Allen Park, MI
Dynamometer: 60 Kw AccuDyne™ AC Motoring Dynamometer
Control System: DynoLAB™
Other Equipment: Engine simulation package
Dyno One team members designed and built a front-end accessory drive (FEAD) test system to accurately simulate the dynamic conditions experienced by engine front-end accessories (alternators, water pumps, AC compressors, power steering pumps, etc.) in a laboratory environment without the use of an actual engine. The system accurately simulates the output of an engine, including torsional transients, with an AccuDyne™ AC motoring dynamometer. Control and testing of the entire system, including the dynamometer and all front-end components and related systems, is automated by the DynoLAB™ system. The customer uses the machine to test their components in realistic conditions without the cost and complexity of maintaining and running an engine test cell.
